Acteev® to Showcase Innovations in Medical Technology at Advanced Wound Care Summit

The latest development from the award-winning technology combines the antimicrobial protection of zinc with high-performing specialty nylon

Acteev will introduce its innovations in health care technology to attendees of the Advanced Wound Care Summit in Boston, Massachusetts, July 13-14. Acteev experts will be exhibiting at the conference, which is the first industry-led forum focused on delivering innovative wound care treatments to patients.

Acteev’s award-winning patented technology embeds zinc ions into a premium nylon polymer to create long-lasting antimicrobial properties. Yarns, fabrics and nonwovens are abrasion-resistant, soft and durable. Plus, unlike chemical applications that are coated or sprayed on, Acteev does not rely on any post-production treatment or after-market process. Instead, Acteev’s zinc ions are embedded directly into the matrix of the molecule, providing protection throughout the life of the product.

Medical product manufacturers at AWCS can learn how to incorporate the antimicrobial technology into their wound care applications, compression devices and medical textile products, said Cristina Acevedo, Ph.D., director of the Acteev health care business.

“Zinc is a natural mineral that is exceptional at providing protection for the things we count on to keep us safe,” Dr. Acevedo said. “Medical application developers can use antimicrobial Acteev yarns and fabrics to stop odors and mildew in articles such as compression pieces, or they incorporate this technology into their existing product lines that use filaments or nonwovens.”

Tests conducted with accredited third-party laboratories have found the zinc-infused nylon to be biocompatible and have excellent cytotoxicity results.
